Indications/Uses

Susceptible infections which include bone & joint infections, bronchitis, gonorrhea, meningitis, otitis media, peritonitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, skin infections, surgical infections & UTI.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Roxicef S125/Roxicef S250 Childn >2 yr w/ otitis media 250 mg bid or 15 mg/kg bid. Max: 500 mg daily. Childn >3 mth 125 mg bid or 10 mg/kg bid Max: 250 mg daily. Roxicef IM/IV Adult 750 mg-1.5 g 6-8 hrly. Childn 75-150 mg/kg/day in divided doses.

Administration

Should be taken with food.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin.

Special Precautions

Penicillin-sensitive patients, GI disease especially colitis. Monitor kidney function. Prolonged treatment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <3 mth.

Adverse Reactions

Roxicef S125/Roxicef S250 Skin rashes, urticarial, eosinophilia, fever, reactions resembling serum sickness & anaphylaxis. Roxicef Pain at IM inj site, thrombophlebitis after IV admin. Pseudomembranous colitis, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, +ve Coombs' test. Hypersensitivity reactions eg, rash, urticaria & anaphylaxis.

Drug Interactions

Increased nephrotoxicity w/ probenecid, ethacrynic acid, furosemide, gentamycin & vancomycin. Disulfiram-like reaction w/ alcohol ingestion, cephalosporins, methyltetrazole-thiol (MTT) sidechain (eg, cefamandole, cefoperazone, moxalactam & cefotetan). High-dose heparin, oral anticoagulants & other drugs that affect hemostasis. May increase the risk of hemorrhage w/ cephalosporins w/ MTT side chain. Inj: Potent diuretics.
